Abu Dhabi storms World Travel Market

Abu Dhabi is investing in London’s World Travel Market in a big way this year, its island-like pavilion with 140 stands will stretch over an area of 403 square meters at the front of the Middle East and North Africa hall at ExCeL in the docklands. At stand ME1000 the tourism authority will be outlining its plans to add 25,000 hotel rooms to its inventory. A total of 4,000 rooms will be added in the next three years.

The emirate will also showcase Saadiyat Island. It is just 500 metres off the coast of Abu Dhabi and is being turned into a tourist destination, with a 240-metre tower at the heart of the Emirates Pearl Resort.

Abu Dhabi also plans to establish its own Guggenheim modern art museum.

The emirate also plans to host the Middle East and North Africa regional World Travel Awards in 2007 at the Emirates Palace hotel, which will run alongside GIBTM - the Gulf Incentive, Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition on 27th - 29th March.

The hotel is one of the most exclusive and decadent hotel’s in the Middle East. The hotel also won World’s Leading Conference Hotel as well as a bevy of regional and local awards at this year’s World Travel Awards, while Abu Dhabi won World’s Leading New Destination.


ADTA Chairman Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan will be receiving the award on behalf of Abu Dhabi at 1:00 pm on Monday, 6th November at the stand.

Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan said of ADTA’s activities: “Abu Dhabi’s participation (in WTM) is part of the Government of Abu Dhabi keen interest in promoting the emirate as a major international touristic destination and in keeping pace with the comprehensive tourist development plans which aim to boost non-oil economy sectors.”

The WTM is the leading international travel and tourism industry’s dedicated business-to-business event. WTM is the place where the world’s travel suppliers meet annually with the world’s most influential industry buyers.
