Hilton joins £900m Liverpool project

Hilton has
announced its new northern UK venture - a full service hotel at Liverpool One
- Grosvenor’s £900m retail-led regeneration of Liverpool City Centre.The
management agreement for the new Hilton hotel has been signed with the developer,
Grosvenor.  The hotel will be managed by Hilton and will open in 2008, during the
city’s year as European Capital of Culture.  Howard Friedman, Hilton’s Area
President for the UK and Ireland said,  “This is Hilton’s first hotel in Liverpool,
one of the UK’s fastest growing and dynamic cities. “The signing of the agreement
marks yet another significant step forward for Hilton’s development throughout the
UK and Ireland, and we are delighted to be part of Liverpool’s exciting future.” The
hotel, which will feature 216 guest rooms over eight floors, ten Hilton Meetings
rooms, a ball room, restaurant and a LivingWell Express, will be part of Liverpool
One - one of the biggest mixed use developments in Europe.  The hotel will be
situated on the historic site of the world’s first commercial dock, adjacent to an
elevated park that overlooks the River Mersey, one of the development’s five
individually designed retail and leisure districts. Grosvenor’s Ed Skeates,
commented: “Hilton is the perfect brand to act as the full service hotel provider
for Liverpool One, and we are delighted that the development has been chosen as the
location for its first hotel in Liverpool City Centre.” The hotel will reflect
Hilton’s contemporary ‘new look’ and lifestyle focus and has been designed by
London-based architects, Squire & Partners, and Aedas Architects, an international
firm renowned firm renowned for its innovative designs.  The design of the building
is derived from a contemporary reinterpretation of elements found in classical
architecture.  It will be a striking structure featuring glass and pre-cast masonry.
