Air Zimbabwe fares rise sharply

Air Zimbabwe, the loss-making state-owned airline has announced a 500% increase in fares to counteract increases in costs. The fare rises will make air travel available to only the country’s most wealthy citizens.

According to the BBC, the company has said spiralling costs had forced it to increase ticket prices on all domestic and international routes while the country’s central bank will not continue to support Air Zimbabwe and other state companies.

Official inflation in Zimbabwe currently stands at 1000% but outside estimates sugggest it is much higher.
