Strike disrupts catering on SAA

23rd Oct 2006

A brief strike at OR Tambo International Airport on Friday disrupted food supplies to South African Airways (SAA) domestic flights, said the carrier.

SAA spokeswoman Jacqui O’Sullivan said drivers for Air Chefs, which supplies the food to SAA flights, went on strike at the airport outside Johannesburg for a few hours.

“The matter was resolved this (Friday) morning,” said O’Sullivan.

“All operations should be back to normal tomorrow (Saturday).”

O’Sullivan said SAA prioritised supplies to its international flights so these were not affected.

All domestic flights from OR Tambo were affected, and had limited supplies of food. O’Sullivan said the flights had water, juice and biscuits.

She said there had been no warning to SAA of the strike and the carrier was consulting with Air Chefs about it.
