Opodo appoints CIO

Opodo has appointed Sam Jabbour as Chief Information Officer.

With over 30 years experience in his field, Sam has an impressive international Information Technology background, allied to broad travel experience. In this role he will be responsible for all aspects of the company’s technology strategy, engineering, and architecture operations ensuring that Opodo continues to provide the most consumer-friendly technology platform in online travel.

Sam began his career in 1974 with IBM, working for IBM Australia and IBM Europe, in the Systems Engineering, Product Planning, Development, Marketing, and Strategic Planning functions.

In 1988 Sam joined Amadeus where he held several positions within the Amadeus Development Company, in the Communications, Travel Agency Management Systems and Systems Planning departments. He left Amadeus in 1993 to join the Universal Postal Union (UPU) where he took on a new opportunity as Director of the Postal Technology Centre (PTC) based in Bern, Switzerland before being appointed Chief Information Officer in 1998.

Sam rejoined Amadeus in 2001 as Director, Systems Planning before taking on the role of Director Development for Travel Office Products & Services (TOPS) in 2003 where he had overall responsibility for the various divisions and departments responsible for delivering Amadeus distributed solutions to Travel Agencies, Tour Operators and Airline Offices.

Sam (54) is an Australian national. He holds a Civil Engineering Diploma and a Bachelor of Business Degree.
