SITA brings web check-in to Russia

Russia’s fastest-growing and largest private airline, Transaero, is introducing PassengerWeb Check-in, SITA’s online check-in application.
Olga Pleshakova, Director General of Transaero, said, “We are pleased to introduce web check-in for the first time in Russia as an airline which always puts the convenience of the passenger first. It will give us additional check-in capacity and improve the passenger experience by reducing the time spent waiting in line and allowing our customers to check in from wherever they find an internet connection whether in the office, at home or from their hotel.”
The initial deployment of web check-in will be available from the airline’s home base, Domodedovo, first within Russia and then abroad. From Russian and English, the service will gradually be made available in Chinese, French and Spanish. The airline also intends to work with SITA on the introduction of check-in kiosks in the near future.
Ilya Gutlin, SITA Regional Vice President, said, “SITA is at the forefront of passenger self-service throughout the world and we are very pleased to be breaking new ground here in Russia with Transaero which has a reputation for taking the lead on the introduction of cutting edge technology. This will also position the airline to take full advantage of e-ticketing when it is introduced.”
Transaero has been driving innovation since it started operating as Russia’s first private airline in November 1991.  It was the first Russian airline to operate foreign manufactured planes and to apply international service standards on domestic routes such as the introduction of business class, flexible fares, discounts and a frequent flyer programme.
Over the last eight months the number of passengers carried by Transaero has reached 1.4 million, a 49% increase over the same period last year. The airline continues to expand with the introduction of Boeing 747 aircraft last year and adding on new routes.
