Emirates introduces second 777

Emirates will increase capacity from Manchester by 21 percent from 29 October 2006, when the carrier introduces a new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on to its second non-stop daily flight to Dubai. This is the second Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range), the longest, and one of the world’s largest commercial aircraft, to be used on Emirates’ services from Manchester, meaning that passengers will now be able to experience the 777-300ER on Emirates’ evening departure from Manchester to Dubai, as well as on its lunchtime flight.

The 777-300ER will have a two-class configuration of 427 seats, with 42 in Business and 385 in Economy - 149 more seats per day than the aircraft that currently operates this service.

A key feature available throughout the aircraft is Emirates’ unique information, communications and entertainment system - ice - which offers more than 600 channels of on-demand entertainment from the latest films, to every No. 1 hit since 1952, news programmes and games, along with the ability to send e-mail and SMS messages.

Laurie Berryman, Emirates Manager UK North, said: “We are committed to the development of Emirates’ operation from Manchester, and the introduction of the Boeing 777-300ER onto both our daily flights forms an integral part of that. More and more customers are recognising the benefits of our direct services from Manchester to Dubai, and onward to Emirates’ extensive route network across all corners of the globe, in particular Australia and the Indian Ocean.”

Emirates’ unique ‘mood lighting’ is also featured throughout the aircraft. The system, which adjusts the cabin lighting to reflect the time of day, is designed to counter the effects of jet lag.

Emirates currently operates 38 aircraft from the Boeing 777 family, with an additional 55 on order, making Emirates one of the largest operators of the aircraft type.

The new 777-300ER aircraft will operate Emirates flight EK020 which departs daily from Manchester at 19.50, arriving in Dubai at 06.40 the following morning. The return flight EK019 departs Dubai at 14.35 and arrives in Manchester at 18.10 the same day.  All times are local.
