OpenJaw inks India deal

OpenJaw Technologies has provided the backbone travel technology behind, Yatra .com, India’s First Comprehensive Online Travel Services Company. now enables millions of Indian travellers to search, compare and reserve the best flight and hotel deals using a fully integrated travel technology solution supplied by OpenJaw Technologies.

In order to provide a comprehensive flight and hotel searching capability for the Indian market, Yatra needed to source inventory from multiple suppliers including GDS’s, supplier direct connects, Low Cost Carriers and hotel switches, and also locally manage hotel content and room allocations. OpenJaw’s XML middleware and Rules Engine, xDistributor has provided the multiple supplier connectivity and distribution management, while xHotel, Openjaw’s recently launched Hotel Content & Inventory Management Solution enables Yatra to centrally manage hotel descriptive content, negotiated rates and inventory allocations for all their hotel suppliers. xHotel’s extranet capability allows individual hotels or chains to maintain their content, rates and inventory via a Web interface.

Yatra is the first centralized travel services company in India offering a comprehensive selection of Indian air, car and hotel suppliers through both its Web site, and call centre. Yatra is meeting the rapidly growing needs of the current boom in Indian business and leisure travel. In 2006, the Indian travel market is estimated to reach about US$40bn, and plans to hit close to US$50bn by 2009.

The founders of Yatra are Non Resident Indians (NRIs) and seasoned travel industry executives who have returned to India to launch the first online and centralized travel services company of its kind. The founders, Dhruv Shringi and Manish Amin, bring a combination of 45 years of travel experience and 15 years of online travel experience to Yatra. Most recently, they worked together to help build and manage one of Europe’s largest online travel businesses, Ebookers Plc, which was recently acquired by travel giant Cendant Corporation (market capitalization: US$17.98bn) for US$410mn.
