MIJET creates airline tech opportunities

Starling Advanced Communication will present a flight-proven prototype of its MIJET antenna for in-flight entertainment at the World Airlines Entertainment Association (WAEA) Conference, to be held on September 12-15, 2006 in Miami, Florida. Recently, MIJET successfully passed its airworthiness test.

MIJET is the world’s fastest low-profile, fuselage-mounted antenna for airliners. The revolutionary new antenna sets the highest performance levels for two-way Ku-band connectivity, opening new horizons for broadband in-flight applications, such as the Internet, VPN, PDA, VoIP, e-mail, mobile phones, video conferencing, instant messaging and various entertainment applications such as video-on-demand, live TV, online gaming and multimedia applications.

Powered by a new technology, the MIJET is an ultra-small (diameter 30’’ - 75 cm, height 6” - 15 cm), bidirectional airborne Ku-band antenna. It is suitable for any wide and narrow body airliner. Despite its compact size the MIJET sets the highest level of performance and bit rate for airliners: transmission bit rate of up to 1.25 Mbps and reception bit rate from 10-15 Mbps.

“MIJET creates new opportunities for service providers and airlines,” said Jacob Keret, Vice President Marketing and Sales, Starling Advanced Communication. “Airlines can offer high-performance broadband services in all flight conditions, across all aircraft in their fleet. Starling is committed to providing the industry’s most advanced capabilities at an affordable cost.”

The MIJET antenna family is based on Starling’s patent-pending CoMPA? (Coherent Multi-Panel Antenna) technology which enables data transmission and reception at true broadband bit rates via an extremely low profile antenna. CoMPA? combines transmission/reception capabilities with advanced signal processing, making it possible to build exceptionally small, low profile antennas that are suitable for the full range of mobile platforms. All electronic units are housed inside the antenna. CoMPA? supports varied elevation angles - enabling consistent global coverage, including over transatlantic and equatorial routes.

The MIJET antenna family includes also MiniMIJET - an ultra-small (diameter 16’’ - 40 cm, height 4” - 10 cm), bidirectional airborne Ku-band antenna for business jets, ranging from 4-seaters to large VIP jets.
