Le Meridien launches in Shanghai

31st Aug 2006

Le Royal Meridien Shanghai will launch trial operation in Shanghai on September 25, the first time for the hotel group to foray into the China region after it joined Starwood Hotels and Resorts. Starwood is valuing the Chinese hotel market, and Shanghai is the economic hub of the country. Le Meridien is to launch business there partly for 2010 World Expo, according to general manager for Le Meridien communications.

There are a number of hotels in the city, but they cannot meet demand of the World Expo. Thus, there is certain room for the business to further expand, said officials from Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Tourism.

The hotel in Shanghai is situated in a bustling area, and favorable geographic conditions help to bring it more customers. More than 50 percent of its rooms have been booked for September and October.

Le Meridien has also been nominated at this year’s World Travel Awards in the category of World’s Leading Hotel Brand.
