Mauritius resort turns to trees

25th Aug 2006

It’s a common belief that proximity to nature can influence a sense of wellbeing.  Le Canonnier hotel in Mauritius has taken this reasoning to its natural conclusion and opened its haven of relaxation and wellbeing actually within and around an ancient Banyan tree.  The five treatment rooms (incorporating one double) are built into the tree but without creating any risk of damage.  All the materials used are natural and work totally in harmony with nature, to create an atmosphere of stillness and serenity.

The popular holistic treatments enhance the ancient tranquillity of this extraordinary environment.  Treatments such as Shiatsu massage, hot stone therapy and aromatherapy are practised as guests lie listening to the soothing sounds of the flowing water beneath the Banyan tree.  There’s even a special aromatic massage for children.

The treatment products used by the experienced therapists are the renowned French brand Thalgo, which incorporates ancient healing properties from the riches of the Dead Sea.

Located on an exclusive peninsula Le Canonnier is set in seven hectares of landscaped gardens, including its famed water gardens - a favourite haven for guests to practise yoga with the hotel’s yoga trainer, or in peaceful solitude.

Special deals are available depending on date of departure, starting from £1015 per person, including discounts, for 7-nights half board, sharing standard accommodation at Le Canonnier and economy flights with Air Mauritius.
