Worldspan has been named to the 2006 InformationWeek 500, a list that honors the United States’ most innovative users of information technology. Worldspan is recognized for its industry-leading Web Works solutions for airline Web sites, and other advanced IT developments. Top 2006 InformationWeek 500 companies will be revealed at a gala awards ceremony at the InformationWeek 500 Conference in Rancho Mirage, Calif., September 10-13, 2006.
The InformationWeek 500 is unique among corporate rankings in spotlighting the power of innovation in information technology, rather than identifying the biggest IT spenders. More InformationWeek 500 details can be found at www.informationweek.com/iw500/.
“InformationWeek 500 honors leading companies who set the benchmark for business technology strategies and projects,” said InformationWeek publishing director Fritz Nelson. “The companies on our list are some of the most innovative users of technology.”
“Worldspan is honored by this listing and to be recognized in the global IT community for our contributions to the airline industry, as well as for our own mission-critical business solutions,” said Sue Powers, chief information officer and senior vice president - Worldwide Product Solutions for Worldspan.
InformationWeek 500 included Worldspan on this year’s list in part based on how the company in 2005 marshaled several of its leading Web travel technologies into a robust product portfolio called Worldspan Web Works, and began marketing it to the world’s airlines. Innovative positioning of these sophisticated solutions, combined with multi-product usage incentives, offers airlines worldwide the power of the same consumer-driven travel technologies that are in use by the majority of the largest travel sites on the Web today.
Worldspan’s investment in its own organization over the past year to improve business efficiencies and productivity throughout its global sales organization also contributed to Worldspan’s selection on the InformationWeek 500 list. Worldspan leveraged information technology into a custom-built, multifaceted and scalable system for vetting new business leads, managing the RFP process, evaluating profitability, negotiating contracts and closing new deals.
Worldspan has also been nominated this year for a
World Travel Award as World’s CRS/GDS System.
