Wayport is celebrating 10 years of providing network service to premier brands and their customers. Wayport has also now experienced more than 25 million customer connections on its network; with nearly 12 million connections over the past 12 months.
Founded on June 28th, 1996, Wayport’s growth in high-speed Internet access (HSIA) deployments and customer usage, open roaming agreements, marketing partnerships and strategic acquisitions have all fueled increasing momentum over the past decade. From these successes, Wayport has introduced new lines of business across several industries, helping innovative companies attract and retain customers, improve operational efficiencies, and offer new business capabilities that support their core business.
Wayport installed its first hotel property, the Austin Four Seasons Hotel, in 1997 and has grown to a portfolio of more than 800 hotels worldwide, supported by the acquisition of two leading providers of high-speed Internet access in Europe. In June of 2006, Wayport announced the availability of private voice over Wi-Fi services at the Mansion at Turtle Creek hotel in Dallas, Texas. Wayport manages the implementation, training and support of the Vocera voice recognition system and other unique wireless applications for the Mansion.
In September, 2001, Wayport helped define and introduce Wi-Fi roaming for the industry by becoming the first provider to offer open Wi-Fi roaming access. Since then, the company has invested substantially in both infrastructure and support services to ensure the highest quality roaming capability and signed open roaming agreements with AT&T, Cingular Wireless, Sprint/Nextel, iPass, Fiberlink, WeRoam, MCI/Verizon, and Boingo.
