Quality Hotel unveils £3 mn refurb

The Quality Hotel Glasgow, part of Choice Hotels Europe, has just completed
a £3 million refurbishment programme. Located in the heart of Glasgow,
adjacent to Central Station, the hotel - which celebrates its 121st
anniversary this year - has revamped its 222 guestrooms, leisure centre,
restaurants, bars and reception area.  It has also responded to Glasgow’s
leading position as in the conference & events arena by giving its meeting
rooms a total facelift, including the addition of ‘Meetings Focus’ - Choice
Hotels Europe successful meeting product.

All guestrooms retain the high ceilings, large windows and ample space of
the original Victorian station hotel but are now further enhanced with the
benefits of contemporary design and the latest modern amenities including
interactive TV (PlayStation, Internet access & exclusive movies), power
showers and air conditioning.

Of these 222 rooms, the hotel has included three luxury suites, as well as
incorporating 24 family rooms, for bigger parties.  It also is working on
plans to launch a dedicated ‘Executive’ wing later in the year, fully
focused on the needs of today’s business traveller.

Ranked second only to London (ICCA & UIA), Glasgow is a hugely influential
player in the conference and events arena and the hotel has worked hard to
harness this trend to make it a market leader in central Glasgow.  As one of
the hotel’s key focuses, six of its main meeting rooms were given a full
facelift, enabling them to be re-launched as ‘Meetings Focus’ rooms.

‘Meetings Focus’ rooms are designed for the smaller meeting market and have
a stylish and simple feel, featuring maple wood tables, leather ‘eight-hour’
conference chairs and all the very latest equipment, with plasma screen, LCD
projector and broadband wireless Internet as standard.  They also feature a
separate ‘Meetings Focus’ coffee lounge, with unlimited refreshments and a
dedicated coordinator on hand for additional support and peace of mind.

Five of the ‘Meetings Focus’ rooms can accommodate up to 16 delegates in a
boardroom or open u-shape format, while the other can take a maximum of 24
delegates in the same format.  These all form part of a total of 17 meeting
rooms, for up to 600 delegates theatre-style - ideal for small-to-large size
GM Frank Long said: “In my eight years as GM of this hotel, I have seen
Glasgow undergo a real renaissance, so it’s no wonder that our flourishing
cultural scene acts as a magnet for today’s leisure traveller.  But this can
be felt even more dramatically in the business travel and conference
market - business travel visits rose to over 3 million last year, accounting
for over £905 million in expenditure and the number of conference delegates
rose even more sharply, by over 34%.”

“With all this in mind, we worked hard to design a new-look hotel that
catered for both markets - a rare phenomenon of a hotel that has the right
‘feel’ for two very different markets, but interweaves the benefits of both
seamlessly.  I can honestly say that this has been achieved and we are set
to unveil a property that will be hard to beat in central Glasgow.”
