Precious antiques, award-winning chairs, engraved glass walls, bespoke floor coverings and an impeccable finish throughout combined to win a top award for Bahrain Airport’s Dilmun Lounge.
Designed and installed by Tony Hutton Associates, the Dilmun Lounge won Highly Commended in the Middle East/Africa category of the prestigious Priority Pass Lounge of the Year 2006 Awards.
From more than 500 airport lounges taking part in the Priority Pass programme, the Dilmun Lounge was one of just 11 ever to receive an award for the quality of its facilities and service.
Commenting on the award, Managing Director Tony Hutton, said: “This award means a great deal to us because it comes from frequent travellers, a highly discerning group of people who know what works and what they like.”
In the case of the Dilmun Lounge, travellers clearly liked the thought and attention to detail that had been lavished on this exceptional facility.
Said Tony Hutton: “Under the direction of our chief designer Georges Karam we specified, sourced and supplied everything from the staff uniforms, marble and custom furniture to all the HVAC systems.
“We have incorporated precious antiques from the Kingdom of Bahrain Museum and one entire wall is covered in 24 carat gold leaf. The finished result is truly superb and both the client and customers are delighted.”
Not only did the lounge itself win an award, but the armchair that Georges Karam designed for the lounge has subsequently won Best Product in the Commercial Seating category of the British Contract Furniture Association (BCFA) 2006 Awards.
Tony Hutton Associates were appointed by Bahrain Airport Services to design and install the lounge in 2004 and the US$3.3 million project took 15 months to complete. Up to 180 people were working on the project at any one time.
Priority Pass members were asked to award points to lounges they have visited based on the quality and range of facilities available, the comfort and ambience of the lounge and the quality of service and staff.
Bahrain’s Deputy Prime Minister and Transportation Minister, H.E. Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa received the award from Priority Pass Director Sue Burns in June 2006.
