Starwood ties up two more China deals

Starwood continues its aggressive expansion in China with the signing of two new hotels, the Four Points by Sheraton Tianjin, Zhongshan and the Four Points by Sheraton Hangzhou, Binjiang. Starwood has expanded its portfolio in China significantly in the last two years and now operates 26 hotels in mainland China, Taiwan and Macau, with 27 new hotels under construction, and has become one of the largest international hotel operators in China.

The Four Points by Sheraton Tianjin, Zhongshan will be located within a mixed-use development that will include retail outlets and residential units. The hotel is located approximately 40 minutes by car from Tianjin Binhai International Airport and is in close proximity to the Tianjin Economic and Technological Development area and tourist attractions. The 300-room hotel will feature 7,500 square feet of meeting space, three restaurants, an indoor heated swimming pool, health club and spa, and a business center. The hotel, scheduled to open in 2008, is owned by the Tianjin City Sun Real Estate Development Co., Ltd. and will be managed by Four Points by Sheraton.

The Four Points by Sheraton Hangzhou, Binjiang is also part of a mixed-use development and is centrally located in the hi-tech district in Hangzhou. The hotel is 30 minutes from Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport and 20 minutes from the Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Area. The hotel will feature 350 guestrooms, 17,100 square feet of meeting space, two restaurants, health club, an indoor swimming pool and a business center. Schedule to open 2008, this new-build hotel is owned by the Zhejiang Dragon Happy Investment Group Co., Ltd. and will be managed by Four Points by Sheraton.

“We are thrilled about the choice location of our new hotels in Tianjin and Hangzhou, and are honored to partner with Tianjin City Sun Real Estate Development Co., Ltd and Zhejiang Dragon Happy Investment Group Co., Ltd to establish these two new hotels, which will provide the Four Points by Sheraton brand with a major presence in two of the most important travel markets in mainland China,” said Miguel Ko, President, Starwood Asia Pacific. “We see great potential to grow the Four Points by Sheraton brand in China, given the high level of domestic travel and the demand for both domestic and international travelers for a comfortable and fuss-free hotel experience that at the same time provides great value,” added Ko.

The signing of these two new properties also further strengthens the Four Points by Sheraton brand’s presence in China and in Asia Pacific. The brand was first introduced to China with the opening of Four Points by Sheraton Shenzhen in late 2004 and subsequently the opening of the first Four Points in Shanghai this year: Four Points by Sheraton Shanghai, Pudong. Other Four Points by Sheraton hotels in Asia-Pacific are located in Sydney and Geelong in Australia as well as in Chung Ho, Taiwan. New Four Points by Sheraton additions will be coming to Dalian, Daning (in Shanghai), Changshu, and now Tianjin and Hangzhou in China.
