BBC World, the BBC’s international 24-hour news and information channel, has signed an agreement with Qatar Airways to sponsor the channel’s weather forecast. The year-long agreement gives Qatar Airways sponsorship credits on two global weather broadcasts every day and will be available to BBC World’s 65 million weekly viewers
The new weather forecast sponsorship with Qatar Airways further strengthens BBC World’s relationship with the international airline that also includes advertising on the channel and a distribution agreement.
Qatar Airways recently became the first international airline to provide passengers with live streaming of BBC World on seatback TV systems of selected long-haul Airbus A330 aircraft within and between the Middle East and Europe.
Distributed through Showtime Arabia via the Rockwell Collins Tailwind 560 system, BBC World will initially be seen on 17 aircraft by the end of 2006 increasing to 32 in 2007.
BBC World’s Regional Director MENA & Pakistan, Hani Soubra says: ‘We are delighted to extend our relationship with Qatar Airways and believe this sponsorship reiterates the strong faith advertisers have in BBC World. It also demonstrates the channel’s ability to produce innovative, bespoke solutions for its clients beyond just traditional advertising spots.’
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said: ‘Qatar Airways is proud to continue our long association with BBC World by sponsoring the channel’s weather forecast.
‘Once again Qatar Airways is an innovator, leading the field with live television onboard our long-haul fleet where passengers are able to view numerous channels such as BBC World right from their seat-back television screens.’
