24th Jul 2006

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. is acquiring a new ship in a bid to expand capacity on its luxury cruises line.
According to reports, the company is spending $698.3 million on a third ship, which will be constructed by German shipbuilder Meyer Werft. Each of the three planned Solstice-class vessels will hold 2,850 passengers, compared with the 2,000-person capacity of Celebrity’s four Millennium ships.
Royal Caribbean is adding three new vessels to the Celebrity fleet as operators build ships and add new features such as gourmet food in a bid to boost demand.
Celebrity comprises about one-quarter of Royal Caribbean’s passenger capacity.
Each of the three Solstice ships will be 1,033 feet long and have larger staterooms and more balconies
