Austrian Airlines boosts eticketing

Around 70% more passengers flew paper-free with the Austrian Airlines Group in the first six months of 2006 than in the same period last year. From January to end-June 2006, more than 1,260,000 passengers were given their boarding card after doing nothing more than present their credit or Miles & More card.

In the month of May the 300,000 passenger mark was exceeded for the first time within one month, when 315,882 people travelled using paper-free ticketing.

The ‘Interlining’ of the electronic ticket etix®, or the provision of an electronic ticket on other airlines, is expanding continuously due to the major success it has enjoyed in the market. Interlining has now been extended onto a further four airlines belonging to the SAS Group, so that Interlining and two-way access to electronic tickets will now be possible with immediate effect with Star Alliance partners SAS, Spanair, Blue One and Wideroe. Electronic ticketing can already be used with Star Alliance partners Lufthansa, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines, bmi, LOT, Singapore Airlines, Swiss, TAP Portugal, Thai Airways, Varig and United Airlines. Interlining is also possible with a non-Star Alliance airline, British Airways.

The number of routes on which etix® can already be used is growing constantly. Including the new destinations of Delhi and Mumbai (Bombay) in India, Malaga in Spain, Donetsk in Ukraine, Sarajevo in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Skopje in Macedonia, 76 airports in the Austrian route network are already etix®-enabled and an invitation to fly paper-free.

To be able to fly using an etix®, you only need a Miles & More card or credit card number for personal identification. In the event that a passenger owns neither a Miles & More nor a credit card, etix® can also be used combined with a photograph identity card.

p>Booking an etix® also has a real financial advantage: issuing an electronic ticket is cheaper than paper, and earns a total of EUR 10 less when the booking is made over the Austrian Airlines website (, EUR 35 at any other Austrian Airlines booking offices (for Europe and the Middle East) and EUR 45 for long-haul flights.

What makes travelling with an etix® especially comfortable is the fact that you fly paper-free. That means etix® need be neither delivered nor collected, leaving the passenger with absolutely nothing to forget or lose.
