Great Tropical Drive opens in Australia

The iconic wonders and best-kept secrets of North Queensland have been mapped out for the world to discover on the recently launched Great Tropical Drive. Extending from Ayr, south of Townsville through Cairns to Cooktown in the far north, the 1545km Great Tropical Drive is a true contender for the title of the world’s most scenic drive - offering a drive holiday experience unlike any other.

For those who prefer to take the roads less travelled, a series of 13 shorter Tropical Discovery Trails (shorter sections or offshoots of the primary route) are also available for exploration, along with six experiential trails.

The Great Tropical Drive is the only touring route dedicated to Australia’s tropics and outback and showcases North Queensland’s unrivalled natural beauty, rich aboriginal and cultural history.

The Great Tropical Drive website www.greattropicaldrive.com.au allows visitors to plan their own itinerary in advance, using the easy-to-follow website planner including maps, detailed information and advice on what people can see and do on each Trail.

Supported by an AU$6 million Federal grant, the Great Tropical Drive is the culmination of extensive planning by Tropical North Queensland Tourism (TTNQ) and Townsville Enterprise Limited (TEL).
