Etihad boosts Africa, sales staff

Etihad Airways has appointed two managers in Sudan ahead of the start of its operations in Khartoum on 5 July, and increased its sales teams in Qatar and South Africa. Mohammed Aslam takes up the reins as manager Sudan after a wealth of sales experience in Gulf countries, most recently working with Emirates in Yemen.

Joining Mohammed as the sales manager Sudan is Lubna Shehata, who held senior sales roles for Air France and brings to Etihad a strong working knowledge of the Khartoum travel trade.

Raza Khan has been appointed sales manager Qatar after holding a similar position at Gulf Air for two years, and previously he worked for American Airlines in Qatar for 12 years. Raza’s corporate market knowledge will be a major asset in growing Etihad’s premium business.

Completing the new managerial line-up is Shaheed Rasdien, who takes up the position of sales manager South Africa after working for Malaysian Airlines System. Shaheed’s Asian leisure expertise will help drive sales on Etihad’s B777-300ER operation to Johannesburg.

Ian Lovelock, Etihad Airways’ regional general manager for the Middle East and Africa said, ‘We wish them all success in their new roles in helping Etihad grow its business across our rapidly expanding network.’

Etihad Airways launched its services to Doha on 18 June and will fly to the between Abu Dhabi and the Qatari capital six times-a-week, operating one of its three-zone Boeing B767-300 aircraft.

From 5 July 2006, the UAE’s national airline will fly to Khartoum three-times-a-week, every Monday, Wednesday and Sunday.
