Alitalia SpA and Meridiana signed a code sharing agreement for the Rome-Cagliari (Sardinia) route, the airlines said in a joint statement. Under the deal, Meridiana will also lease an Alitalia aircraft to operate on the route.

Alitalia lost the right to operate routes to Cagliari and Olbia in April because it applied for a renewal of the concession after a deadline set by the regulator.
