Birmingham Airport closed after plane block

15th Jun 2006

The main runway at Birmingham International Airport has been closed after a freight aircraft was diverted because of a technical problem, reports the BBC.
Foam was sprayed on to the runway as a precaution, causing the closure.

The plane was travelling from London Stansted to Glasgow when it reported a problem and was diverted to Birmingham. It landed safely just after 0600 BST.

Passengers are being told to expect severe delays.
