Crystal Cruises debuts spa therapies

15th Jun 2006

In line with the increased consumer demand for customization and personalization, luxury cruise specialist Crystal Cruises has designed a new spa therapy menu exclusively for men. Crystal’s “Time for Men” spa therapies offer a masculine focus on what was once primarily feminine territory.

In a specially created “Time for Men” brochure, treatments such as a pro-collagen shave, frangipani hair conditioning, skin IQ facial and aroma stone therapy massage emphasize rejuvenation, de-stressing and grooming techniques unique to a man’s particular needs.

According to the International Spa Association (ISPA), 36% of spa travelers are male. Since Crystal tested its “Time for Men” spa services earlier this year, the line has experienced a 20% increase of male visits to Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity spas.

“At Crystal, we place great priority on developing programs and services that will enhance the well-being of all of our guests,” says Alexandra Don, vice president, onboard guest services. “With a collection of treatments that are both therapeutic and sophisticated, Crystal has created an inviting environment for men to enjoy spa services tailored to their individual needs.”

Crystal partnered with Elemis, the UK’s leading spa brand, to launch the men’s-only therapies. Designed to de-stress and revitalize, the spa treatments introduce the next generation of men’s facials, salon grooming (wet shaves) and body therapies. Most notable are the new shaves, more like mini-massages than a traditional shave. The Deep Cleanse Grooming Treatment with Shave includes a soothing face and scalp massage and a deep pore cleansing mask, while the 55-minute Pro-Collagen Grooming Treatment with Shave incorporates an anti-aging mini-facial and luxurious face, scalp, hand and arm massage.

The award-winning Crystal Spa, found aboard Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity, is designed in accordance with the principles of Feng Shui, the Oriental Art of Placement to evoke health, prosperity and happiness, and offers a variety of treatments applying these principles to the body. The luxurious floating resorts feature a range of therapies, from Yin Yang Facials with essential oils to Exotic Lime & Ginger Salt Glow with Well-Being Massage to Aroma Stone Therapy using heated volcanic basalt stones and aromatherapy to release tension. Complementing the treatments are sports activities, a fully equipped gym, and group and private training in yoga and Pilates, disciplines of stretching that engage both the mind and the body.

Operated by Steiner Leisure, the world’s largest spa company, the Crystal Spas employ dedicated therapists who complete extensive training in the fundamentals of Feng Shui and Eastern massage, as well as in the core values of the Crystal service philosophy.

Crystal’s progressive pursuit toward the overall well-being of its guests is evidenced by its innovative enrichment programming both on board and ashore. The line’s revolutionary Creative Learning Institute includes a dedicated fitness component featuring hands-on, interactive instruction in Tai Chi and health and fitness seminars conducted by the renowned Cleveland Clinic. Fitness expert Debbie Rocker custom-made her “Walk on Water” program for the cruise line utilizing her signature WALKVEST, designed to maximize the health benefits of walking.
