Malév Hungarian Airlines and British Airways are signing an agreement that will enable the two airlines to begin code-sharing on each other’s flights from November 1, 2006. Malév will join British Airways as a member of the oneworld alliance early next year.
Malév’s flight code will be placed on British Airways’ three daily flights from London Heathrow to Budapest and British Airways’ flight code will be placed on Malév’s two daily flights from Budapest to London Gatwick.
In addition, British Airways’ flight code will be placed on Malév’s flights beyond Budapest to Constanta, Larnaca, Sarajevo, Skopje, Timisoara, Tirana and Varna. Malév’s flight code will be placed on British Airways’ flights beyond London Gatwick to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle.
Customers will be able to redeem frequent flyer rewards across the airlines’ networks and have access to each airline’s airport lounges.
British Airways’ chief executive, Willie Walsh, said: “We are pleased to sign a codeshare agreement with our future oneworld partner. The relationship with Malév will work well for both parties and will strengthen our presence in the Eastern European market.”
Malév’s chief executive, János Gönci, said: “This agreement is an important milestone towards our oneworld membership. We are thrilled to work with British Airways to extend the products and benefits available to our customers and will strengthen our position both on the Budapest-London route and in the Eastern European region.”
