London’s Athen¾um gets designer makeover

The entire ground floor of the Athen¾um Hotel on Piccadilly has been brilliantly transformed by Martin Hulbert, Design Director of Fox Linton Associates. Martin’s award-winning work at The Athen¾um’s sister hotel, The Grove in Hertfordshire, was universally acclaimed for its distinctive, ground-breaking “groovy grand” look.

The completion of the new interiors in May this year saw key areas of the hotel - the lobby and reception, the bar, the restaurant and sitting rooms - transformed, with a glamorous, contemporary new look.

Martin Hulbert describes this as quintessentially English, but distinctly modern in its richness, its materials and in its unexpectedness.

“The design brief was to open up the public areas to create fluid public spaces, where flexibility is the key. Although the new scheme will keep the existing intimate, private spaces that people love, you will be able to see right through the hotel, from the moment you walk in,” explains Martin.

The new designs will also see a fresh, flexible approach to how the public spaces are used, with all-day dining for relaxed eating and meeting. Guests choose where they want to be, when they want to be: the lobby, the restaurant, the sitting rooms - and two bars.
