Hertz expands sat nav offering

Hertz is increasing the availability of NeverLost, a satellite navigation system specially designed for holidaymakers and business travellers, to 170 locations in 15 countries. It will be available in even more destinations from June 2007. Since the launch of NeverLost in November 2005, more than 20,000 customers across Europe have enjoyed the benefits of the system, designed exclusively for Hertz.

Following customer demand, NeverLost units will be available in Spain from June 7th at five major airports.  Portugal will also offer the unit in June, and the network has already grown in Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland & Sweden. Hertz now has over 1,600 units available for hire, which will grow to over 2,400 by the end of 2006.

With an 11 language capability, Hertz NeverLost is based on Thales’ award-winning Magellan Roadmate 760 and is the only rental navigation system to include Magellan’s industry leading SayWhere text-to-speech technology to announce upcoming street names in advance.

The system also allows seamless cross-border functionality as well as built-in intelligence to automatically adjust volume levels to be heard above traffic, or wind noise at higher speeds.  The unit also has extensive, detailed mapping for 27 countries, a wide, easy-to-use full-colour touch-screen and allows customers to access turn-by-turn directions to points of interest simply by touching an icon, a QuickSpell facility and multiple search options that include, for example, restaurant searches by cuisine type, airport locations, nearest petrol stations.
