oneworld members bag awards

oneworldTM members swept the board at the 2006 OAG Airline of the Year awards, taking eight top prizes.
Cathay Pacific was named OAG’s overall Airline of the Year, its fourth such title gained in the past six months. oneworld’s Hong Kong-based partner, recently named Airline of the Year also by Air Transport World, SkyTrax and TTG Asia, was honoured as well as OAG’s best airline in Asia and best Transpacific.

Among its oneworld partners British Airways gained the best European and best transatlantic awards, LAN retained its title as best in Central/South America and Caribbean, and Qantas best in Australasia/Pacific, while American Airlines was recognised as airline of choice for travelers with disabilities.

The awards, presented at a glittering ceremony in London this month, are based on a poll of worldwide business travellers, carried out on behalf of OAG, the travel information and planning supplier.


In other news, Louisiana’s Monroe is set to join the oneworld network next month, with regional affiliate American Eagle linking the city with its Dallas/Fort Worth hub three times daily from 15 June, using 34-seat Saab 340 turboprop aircraft. In the north east of the state, its airport has the three-letter IATA code MLU.

Finnair has added Florence/Pisa to its network, joining British Airways and Iberia in serving the gateway to Italy’s Tuscany region.
