Birmingham welcomes two new airlines

19th May 2006

Birmingham International Airport is pleased to welcome two new airlines to its ever expanding portfolio of services.During the month of May Adria Airways commenced services to Ljubljana in Slovenia and HLX (Hapag-Lloyd Express) to Cologne in Germany.

Ljubljana has a great deal of history to be unearthed by travellers.

This is an ideal destination for those who want an active walking holiday or just a stroll around the many sights that it has to offer.

The skyline is dominated by the town’s castle, which was first a fortress, then a prison and following that a home to medieval knights.

There are museums and galleries to visit and fantastic scenic walks can be taken along the Ljublijanica River. All of this is accessible within just over two hours from Birmingham.

Adria Airways will operate the service each Wednesday, departing at 1530 hours and arriving at 1845 hours local time. The return service departs Ljubljana at 1325 hours arriving back into Birmingham at 1450 hours local time.

The new Cologne service, operated by HLX, will add to Birmingham’s current range of services to Germany which includes Frankfurt, Munich and Dusselforf. The commencement of the service is ideally timed for the football World Cup tournament that will commence on the 9th June, giving Midlanders even more chance to fly out and support their country.

Situated on the banks of the Rhine, Cologne is packed with culture, history and plenty of opportunity for leisure and entertainment.
