Mobissimo launches in India

Mobissimo has announced the launch of its Indian site is the first travel search engine to specifically target India, giving Indian consumers direct access to the largest selection of travel deals available domestically and worldwide.

With the launch of its Indian site, U.S.-based Mobissimo now provides Indian consumers with up-to-the minute travel deals from Indian-specific online travel agencies, major air carriers, low cost airlines, car rentals, and hotels.

“India is a large, rapidly growing travel market driven by an expanding middle class and a booming global economy,” said Beatrice Tarka, Mobissimo’s CEO. “We have seen a dramatic increase in users from India searching for domestic and international travel and have seized the opportunity to become the first U.S. travel search engine to enter the Indian market.”

With the Indian economy growing at around 8% per annum and the rise in disposable income in India, more people travel within the country and abroad. In addition, India continues to draw foreign visitors. In 2004-05, international passenger movements were recorded at 19.45 million while the domestic passenger movements were 40.09 million in the same period. These figures increased in 2005 - by 24.2 per cent and 18 per cent in the domestic and international segments respectively.
