Qantas welcomes aviation drugs testing

Qantas has welcomed the Australian government’s decision to regulate the implementation of random alcohol and other drugs testing in the Australian aviation industry. Qantas Executive General Manager People Kevin Brown said the Government’s requirement for random testing would complement the existing Qantas Alcohol and Other Drugs program.

“Our program was introduced in 2003 after extensive consultation with employees and unions and provides for education and training, rehabilitation and testing for all employees,” Mr Brown said.

“The provision in the Qantas program for random testing will be implemented in accordance with the regulations.

“The Alcohol and Other Drugs program is part of our comprehensive occupational health and safety system and is one element of our commitment to providing a safe workplace for everyone at Qantas.

“Qantas has always maintained a zero blood alcohol and drug free policy within all of its workplaces,” he said.
