S Carolina website recognised
South Carolina’s official trails Web site, www.SCTrails.net, has been named the winning state agency Web site in the American Trails Website Contest for 2005.
“We looked for sites that really make trails come alive and provide effective information delivery, support volunteers and engage the public. In short, we want to showcase ways that advocates and agencies are making a difference for trails,” said the contest sponsor, American Trails.
The S.C. Trails site provides detailed information on hundreds of scenic trails, including maps, descriptions, a searchable database and program information. Bob Swanson, trails webmaster, maintains the site for the S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism.
“We’re very proud of the work Bob does and glad to see the S.C. Trails site get the recognition it deserves,” says Marshall Johnson, recreation assistance manager for SCPRT. “We also are pleased to be able to present to the public such detailed information about the hiking, biking and family outdoor opportunities these trails present to the public.
American Trails is the only national non-profit organization that works on behalf of all trail interests, including hiking, bicycling, mountain biking, horseback riding, snow sports, ATVs and four-wheeling.
“South Carolina offers many of these opportunities, in our state parks, national forests and a variety of other venues, from the mountains to the coast. Each in its own way adds to the enrichment of life here in South Carolina,” Johnson says.
