BAE Systems has announced that it has entered into discussions with EADS
regarding the sale of its 20% shareholding in Airbus.

“Discussions are at an early stage and a further announcement will be made if and
when appropriate.” said BAE.

They also suggested that there would be no implications for Airbus’ 13,000 UK staff if and when a sale goes ahead. Airbus’ UK operations design and build wings for its fleet of large commercial jets.

There is expected to be a strong response from the relevant unions in the UK.
