Japan record for ‘Golden Week’ travel

Major Japanese travel agency JTB Corp. said it estimates a record 565,000 Japanese will travel abroad during the holiday-studded “Golden Week” period from late April to early May.
JTB estimates per capita travel expenditure will fall 1.1 pct from the previous year to 250,500 yen, expecting the percentage of short-distance trips to increase.

Many holidaymakers plan to go abroad during the five-day break from May 3 through 7 and opt for destinations within Asia, as well as Guam and Saipan, a JTB official told Jiji press.
