Air Berlin goes gourmet

Air Berlin will begin offering exclusive gourmet meals in partnership with airline caterer DO & CO to complement its existing in-flight service from 1st May 2006. The gourmet menus will comprise hot meals freshly prepared each day and will complement the existing standard meals on offer, which will continue to be offered inclusive of the price of the flight.

Different menu options will be available, depending on the time of day, with English breakfast on morning flights as well as seasonal specialties, depending on the time of year, with all meals will be served on porcelain dishes.

Angelika Schwaff, spokesperson for Air Berlin, said: “At Air Berlin we believe everybody has a right to good service and top-class food. And that means we are fully committed to the English breakfast.”

Passengers will be able to enjoy dishes such as veal escalope with potatos and lamb’s lettuce salad, salad & steak, tapas and Mediterranean-style prawns. The English breakfast will serve up hungry fliers bacon and egg, fried mushrooms and potatoes, with fresh fruit, home-made yogurt, ham, cheese, jam, croissant and rolls on the side, and cost just ten euros (just under GBP7). The tapas menu offers Serrano ham with olives and grilled artichokes, prawn with sour cream cocktail sauce, tomatoes and mozzarella cheese, curried chicken salad, a bread roll and rounded off with chocolate mousse. Again all this will set you back is just ten euros. Only the freshest ingredients will be used. For example in May and June, various asparagus dishes will be on offer. Prices will range from seven euros to fifteen euros.
