Sheraton Fota Island appoints spa director

David Long is being appointed as the Spa Director, for Island Spa, the destination spa at the new Sheraton Fota Island Golf Resort & Spa, Cork, opening in May.

Island Spa has been created to concentrate on wellbeing, catering uniquely both for clients in pursuit of golfing excellence, as well as holistic relaxation and pampering for those looking for some ‘me time’. The spa, which will use [Comfort Zone] products, features 17 state-of-the-art treatment rooms, three beauty rooms, a hydropool, walking river, gymnasium, full size swimming pool and conservatory for post treatment relaxation.

David joins the Sheraton Fota Island from his role as Director of Chi-the Spa in Shanghai, China, where he oversaw the opening of the first Chi-the Spa in China at the Flagship property for Shangri-La.  Before his move to Asia, David was the Director of Spa for the largest Spa in the Middle East, at the Jordon Valley Marriott Resort & Spa, Jordan, and before this the Cluster Health & Fitness Manager, operating 3 sites for Marriott International, Dubai. David has also held General Manger roles at spas and independent health and fitness clubs in the UK over the last 14 years, including the Crowne Plaza, Buckingham Gate.

David studied at Crewe and Alsager College of Higher Education, where he obtained Higher National Diploma in Business Studies and a diploma in Sports Coaching.

In his new role, David will lead the Spa team at the hotel and will be responsible for developing spa concepts, devising treatments and overseeing the day-to-day running of the Spa operation.  David will report directly to Paul Dunphy, Hotel Manager.
