Continental signs Hispanic deal

The Houston Association of Hispanic Media Professionals and Continental Airlines have formed a new business partnership that will give Continental “Official Airline” status for the association’s major events for the next year. “As Houston’s hometown airline, Continental is proud to partner with the Houston Association of Hispanic Media Professionals,” said Ned Walker, Senior Vice President - Worldwide Communications, Continental Airlines. “We are pleased that our support will go to provide scholarship opportunities to help aspiring young Hispanic journalists reach what might otherwise have seemed like impossibly distant goals.”
Continental will provide in-kind tickets to be auctioned off at HAHMP’s 20th annual Sylvan Rodriguez Scholarship Gala on March 31, 2006. This year, the Gala will award $24,000 in scholarships to 12 Hispanic students majoring in journalism or communications. Proceeds from the auction will go to the scholarship fund in hopes of offering future scholarships.
“This is a proud day for HAHMP. Continental’s commitment to the Hispanic Community is an exemplary model that other companies should follow. It is our hope that this will continue to grow into a solid partnership for years to come. We are excited about the possibilities for both Continental and HAHMP as we look to the future,” said Vicente Arenas, President of HAHMP and KHOU, CBS Anchor/Reporter.
