Malaysia Air profitable after revamp
Malaysian Airline System Bhd (MAS) expects its domestic operations to post a profit by August 2007 after the route rationalization, the Sun reported, quoting MAS; managing director Idris Jala. From Aug 1, MAS will take back profit & loss responsibility for its domestic operations and will only operate 19 domestic trunk routes on premium flights. AirAsia Bhd will handle low-cost flights and 99 non-trunk domestic as well as social service rural routes, he said.
Idris said taking control of the P&L is vital for MAS as it will enable the national carrier to determine the capacity, frequency and fares of the 19 domestic trunk routes.
