Qatar air order decision in ‘four to six weeks’

Qatar Airways will announce a decision on new aircraft order within ‘four to six weeks’, the Wall Street Journal quoted the carrier’s Chief Executive Akbar Al-Baker as saying.

The carrier has backed off from an earlier commitment to order 20 Boeing 777 aircraft and is now looking at buying A340 jetliners from Airbus, the report said.

The official gave no explanation for the change in plan but said his company is actively assessing the twin-aisle A340 as a possible alternative to the widebody Boeing 777.

Qatar Airways had pledged to buy 20 777s at the Paris Air Show last June.
