Tourism to the US rebounds in 2005

In 2005 international visitation to the United States increased 7 percent over 2004 to 49.9 million visitors.
This represents the second consecutive year the U.S. travel and tourism industry has benefited from positive visitation growth.

Further, the United States enjoyed record numbers of visitors from 58 of the more than 200 countries for which data are available.

581,733 Australians visited the United States in 2005, representing a 12 percent increase over 2004. Australia is the sixth largest market for overseas visitors to the United States.

“Today’s data show that America remains one of the top destinations for international visitors,” said Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez.
