Amadeus reports cruise boom

Since signing 30 new UK cruise customers since November 2005, Amadeus now distributes cruise solutions to 486 locations throughout the UK.
Amadeus has reported a 75 percent (year-on-year) growth in cruise bookings through its cruise reservations solution.  The number of bookings made on Amadeus Cruise in January increased by 27 per cent compared to the same period last year. UK bookings account for 30% of all bookings made through Amadeus Cruise Reservations.

Amadeus Cruise Reservations, which celebrates its 5th birthday in 2006, is offered as standalone or as part of a suite of sales tools for air, car and hotel bookings, enabling both large and small travel agents and cruise booking specialists to benefit from the UK’s leading cruise solution.

Oceania Cruises is the latest company to begin distributing via Amadeus Cruise Reservations in the UK, bringing its total cruise providers to fifteen.

Amadeus UK also recently released the latest Amadeus Cruise Reservations software update - version 3.8 - that has been deployed automatically to all UK users, with no engineer site visits or agency downtime.

Stephane Durand, Managing Director Amadeus UK said: “The outstanding success of Amadeus Cruise Reservations in the UK is largely a result of agents recognising the revenue potential of diversifying their sales to include more non-air bookings. After identifying the potential, agents naturally wanted to use the easiest and most cost-effective booking method, which is why Amadeus Cruise Reservations beats telephone and Viewdata bookings hands down.

“Our graphical cruise booking tool - the first of its type - was introduced 5 years ago, highlighting Amadeus’ technology leadership.  Since then, Amadeus has worked closely with UK cruise specialists, travel agents and cruise providers to ensure the application meets current requirements. We are delighted to welcome Oceania Cruises as the latest provider available via Amadeus Cruise Reservations.”
