Russian airport adopts SITA’s BagManager

Moscow’s Domodedovo International Airport is the latest elite airport location to adopt BagManager, SITA’s state of the art global baggage reconciliation system.

Boris R. Shakhsuvarov, head of the airport’s EAST LINE ground handling services, said, “Domodedovo is Russia’s largest airport. Fourteen million passengers came through here last year, an increase of 15.7% on the previous year. This year we expect this to rise to 16.2 million.

“With this level of year-on-year growth, we need a baggage reconciliation system that integrates a wide range of handling, security and flight information. After a competitive bid process we chose SITA’s BagManager as we were convinced by the excellent implementation we have seen at other large airports around the world.”

This will bring to 33, the number of the world’s leading airports which have integrated SITA’s BagManager software into their operation critical systems to ensure that bags are boarded on to the right aircraft with the right passenger, at the right time. Installed SITA systems have the capacity to handle and trace up to 150 million pieces of luggage worldwide.

Ilya Gutlin, SITA’s regional vice-president, said, “SITA is very pleased to partner with Domodedovo in this operationally critical area which will allow any of the airlines using the airport to benefit from an automated baggage reconciliation system with the kind of reliability necessary to deal with intensive passenger flows. Ultimately it will reduce costs for airlines on mislaid baggage and improve the quality of the Russian passenger experience.”

Domodedovo is fast becoming the international hub airport for Russia. With the arrival of Singapore Airlines this month, there are now 15 regular international carriers operating out of the airport. Further growth projections by the EAST LINE Group forecast that traffic will grow to 22 million passengers by 2010 and 30 million by 2015.

Significant investment has been undertaken in Domodedovo by the EAST LINE Group in order to establish a multimodal transportation hub for transit passenger and cargo traffic integrating flows between the European and Asia-Pacific regions. The East Line Group includes companies based at Domodedovo and engaged in the provision of ground support and airport management services.
