Sheraton Soma Bay gets Egypt’s award

As far as quality recognition is concerned, the Sheraton Soma Bay has been awarded for the second consecutive year one of the prestigious categories of the World Travel Awards as ‘Egypt’s Leading Golf Resort’ in the 12th World Travel Awards ceremony that took place on the 13th of November 2005 at London’s Royal Opera House. The Cascades golf course is the only links course in Egypt, adjoins the Sheraton Soma Bay Resort 40 kms south of the provincial centre of Hurghada.

The undulating course features splendid views of the Karnak Temple-styled Sheraton Soma Bay, surrounded by the Red Sea waters on three sides as well as the distant mountains.

Designed by legendary Gary Player, the 6,864 yard championship course was described by Player, at the Grand Opening as “the next Pebble Beach”, comparing it to the world famous Course in California.

Hundreds and thousands of votes each year are registered online at the official World Travel Awards website, with most of the leading travel internet sites offering additional online voting facilities.

The 12th annual World Travel Awards, an event dedicated to the tremendous contributions and achievements of the travel industry, were hosted this year at London’s Royal Opera House, which was broadcast globally by BBC World and the Arab Travel Channel. It was a night to remember as the 500 guests enjoyed performances by Cirque de Soleil.

Global heads of industry enjoyed the presence of Lord Marshall of Knightsbridge who represented Visit Britain, as well as the ministers of tourism for Greece, UK and Jamaica. in the Caribbean and have been deemed the most spectacular so far by the travel industry.

World Travel Awards were established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate the enormous achievements to be found in all sectors of the global travel industry.
