The Island’s peak tourism body, Tourism Kangaroo Island, sees the highly interactive site as a major tool in encouraging visitation, particularly among international and interstate markets.

“No other medium makes information and touring advice more accessible,” said Tourism Kangaroo Island Marketing Manager, David Honner.

Recent figures reveal websites are increasingly the single most important marketing tool for international tourism destinations with more than 45 percent of tourists researching their holiday via the internet.

“Kangaroo Island’s tourism market is truly global and to reach potential visitors, the internet is proving our most cost effective marketing tool,” said Mr Honner.

“We have designed and written the site to appeal to our ideal visitor, those who have the time to explore, an orientation towards a genuine experience and the wish to explore and protect the natural environment,” he added.

Referral to the site from newspaper, magazine and tourism operator websites mean that the address is already the island’s most prominent site, with search engines easily finding www.tourkangarooisland.com.au among thousands of other sites featuring Kangaroo Island.
