Havana hosts cigar festival

More than 1,000 people from 60 countries are taking part in the Havana Cigar Festival Smokers, manufacturers, distributors, business people and cigar experts, known in these parts as “habanosommeliers,” are gathered in the capital city of the island.

The festival runs from February 27 to March 3.

This year’s festival is dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Cohiba brand, the preferred cigar of Cuban leader Fidel Castro before he quit smoking, and to the Romeo y Julieta brand.

Cigars is one of the island’s main export industries and employes as many as 250,000 people.
