United and TACA in codeshare tie up

United Airlines and TACA GROUP are to have a codeshare agreement expanding international destination options and frequent flyer opportunities for customers of both carriers.
TACA GROUP serves 35 cities in 19 countries in the Americas, with hub operations in San Salvador, El Salvador; San Jose, Costa Rica; and Lima, Peru.

The combination of the carriers’ complementary networks opens doors for customers of each airline, giving United’s customers the opportunity to fly and earn Mileage Plus(R) miles to places never-before served in Central and South America.

Additionally, customers flying with TACA will have the opportunity to connect to destinations worldwide via United from several of its U.S. domestic hubs, including Washington Dulles, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Once the necessary government approvals have been granted and the codeshare and frequent flyer systems put in place, United customers will be able to purchase one ticket, check in for the complete journey and receive Mileage Plus miles from any city United serves to all destinations served by the TACA network.

This includes cities such as San Jose, Costa Rica; Tegucigalpa, Honduras; Lima, Peru; and many more. Necessary approvals are expected by the second quarter of 2006.

“We are very pleased to partner with TACA GROUP to expand Central America destination options for our customers,” says Graham Atkinson, United’s senior vice president-Worldwide Sales & Alliances.

“TACA is a leading airline group in Latin America, and our complementary route networks make this codeshare and frequent flyer partnership an excellent choice. The agreement enables us to improve our service to customers while supporting our strategy of international growth.”

“In our continuous efforts to provide excellent service to our customers, we are very excited to be able to strengthen our networks through this successful partnership,” says Alex Benitez, TACA’s vice president-Planning and Alliances.
