Mandarin Oriental signs on Chinese resort

Mandarin Oriental
is to manage an exclusive resort currently under development on China’s most southern province, Hainan Island. The 292-room resort is scheduled to open in the second half of 2006.

The Mandarin Oriental, SanyaÊ is located on a 12 hectare beachfront site on Dadonghai Bay, all guest rooms, suites and villas, as well as the public areas, will have expansive views over the South China Sea. The resort is approximately five minutes drive from Sanya City, and 20 kilometres from the city’s international airport.

“Mandarin Oriental, Sanya, with its ideal setting on one of the most secluded beaches in the region, is positioned to become the most sophisticated beach resort in mainland China. The project offers Mandarin Oriental a unique opportunity to introduce our luxury brand and legendary service standards for the first time to mainland China, where we are currently reviewing a number of other opportunities. We look forward to working with the developers on creating an exceptional experience for visitors to Hainan Island,” said Edouard Ettedgui, Group Chief Executive of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.

The developer of the project is Hainan New Superior Industry Company Limited. Chan Sau Yan Associates (CSYA) is the Singapore-based architect firm, while LTW DesignWorks will be responsible for the resort’s interior design. Bensley Design Studios, based in Bangkok has been appointed as landscape architects and resort planner.
