Caribbean buys four Bombardier jets

Caribbean Aircraft Leasing will buy another Bombardier Q300 50-seat turboprop airliner after an initial order for three of these aircraft two months ago.The contract is valued at approximately $16.3 million US.

The four Q300 aircraft will be operated either by Caribbean Aircraft Leasing regional airline affiliates Caribbean Star Airlines Limited, based in Antigua, or Caribbean Sun Airlines Inc., based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

They will join the two airlines’ existing fleet of 12 Bombardier 37-seat Dash 8/Q Series 100 and seven 50-seat Dash 8/Q Series 300 aircraft.

“The accelerated expansion of our fleet will provide improved connectivity for the rapidly growing European tourism segment,” said William E. “Skip” Barnette, President of Caribbean Star and Caribbean Sun.

“It will offer more choices for regional travel and positively impact the communities served through increased tourism and business travel.

“The lower operating costs of the new Bombardier Q300 will allow us to continuously upgrade our services and facilities, while making travel within the Caribbean region more economically viable,” Mr. Barnette said.
