Deutsche Bahn orders from Bombardier

Bombardier Transportation, in consortium with Alstom Transport LHB has received an order from Deutsche Bahn for the supply of 78 ET 422 four-section suburban railway multiple units. The total value of the contract, which includes an option for 72 additional trains, is approximately 343 million euros ($402 million US), with Bombardiers share amounting to some 224 million euros ($262 million US). Deliveries are scheduled to take place between March 2008 and October 2010.

Bombardier will produce the electrical equipment for the train at its manufacturing site in Mannheim (Germany), while the bogies will be manufactured at Bombardiers facility in Siegen, (Germany).

Moreover, Bombardiers Hennigsdorf (Germany) site will carry out final assembly for 27 of the 78 trains. Alstom, through its plant in Salzgitter in Germany, will be responsible for supplying 156 front bogies, 312 carbodies and final assembly for 51 trains.

Deutsche Bahn intends to put the trains into service on the suburban rail network of North Rhine-Westphalia. Klaus Baur, Chairman of the Board, Bombardier Transportation Germany, stated: Deutsche Bahns decision to order these trains reflects the strong confidence customers have in our products.

It adds to our track record of delivering important rail transportation products throughout Germany and elsewhere on the European continent.

Vehicles of Bombardier Transportations ET 422 series belong to the new generation of electric railcars. The ET 422, complete with modern technology and an attractive look, satisfies the demanding requirements in regard to environmental friendliness.

Environmentally-compatible materials are used in production. The trains, which can travel at speeds up to 140/Km per hour, are equipped with electrical swivelling-sliding doors, air conditioning units and modern acoustic and visual passenger information systems. Special areas for disabled passengers are also planned.
