The European Commission has given the green light on the proposed agreement on voting rights between Lufthansa and Eurowings.

Lufthansa and Eurowings owner Dr. Albrecht are to conclude a voting rights linkage agreement under which Lufthansa will acquire a majority of the voting rights in Eurowings.

The accord does not effect any change in the ownership structure of the regional carrier. Lufthansa’s stake in Eurowings will remain at 49 per cent.

The voting rights agreement will strengthen at shareholder level the proven cooperation between Lufthansa and Eurowings since 2001 and underpin the ongoing development of company value in the interest of both stakeholders.

In agreement with the European Commission, Lufthansa and Eurowings are to make slots on the Cologne-Vienna, Stuttgart-Vienna and Stuttgart-Dresden routes available for any new competitor, which is willing to fly any one of those routes but is unable to acquire the necessary slots under normal slot allocation practice.
